North Borneo: Sarawak and Sabah Photography Expedition


Welcome To Borneo… a name shrouded in mystery, myths and legends, a place whose history reads like excerpts from an epic novel, with tales of pirates, head-hunters, white adventures and deep, impenetrable jungles as background. If all these somehow frightening tales were once real, it is now a Photographer’s paradise with amazing fauna and flora. We explore the Semenggoh Orangutan Wildlife Centre, the Bqako National Park and stay in a longhouse, then proceed to the Mulu National Park and Kinabalu Park World Heritage Site. 


PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  1ST DAY: Your Place- Bangkok

Arrive in Bangkok and transfer to your hotel. Relax and enjoy the evening in Bangkok City (Night Market, Traditional Massage, etc)



Full day photoshooting in Bangkok, we shoot mainly the old city area, covering Wat Phra Keow Temple, the Wat Arun and a Chinatown Photowalk. In the evening we visit a High tower in Bangkok to make amazing Photos of the Bangkok Skyline.


PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  3RD DAY: Arrive Kuching & City Tour

Our guide will meet you on arrival and assist to transfer you to check in at 4* Grand Margherita Hotel located at downtown Kuching and by the Sarawak River.  In the afternoon, you will be taken for a sightseeing tour of Kuching city which includes the Kuching South City Council, Cat Monument (Kuching Mascot), the Oldest Chinese Temple, Main Bazaar, View Historical Fort Margherita and Astana, and the Colonial Courthouse and the world renowned Sarawak Museum. This city with a romantic history has many treasures to be discovered.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  4th DAY: Kuching – Orangutan Centre & Sarawak Cultural Village (B/L)


This morning we visit Semenggoh Orangutan Wildlife Centre to observe some of the activities of the orangutans as they come down from the jungle for their daily feeding of milk and banana. In the afternoon we drive 32km to visit Sarawak Cultural Village. Popularly known as the ‘Living Museum’ Sarawak Cultural Village offers you an opportunity to admire the richly diverse multi-racial culture of Sarawak as displayed and preserved in their traditional homes of the various indigenous tribes. The tour of the village concludes with a superb cultural show performance at the mini air-conditioned theatre. Return to Kuching in the late afternoon.

 PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  5TH DAY: Kuching – Bako National Park Overnight (B/L)


A scenic drive this morning brings you to Bako Fishing Village where an exciting boat ride take you to marvel at the abundant natural beauty of Sarawak’s and most popular National Park. Trek along the jungle trails to spot wildlife in its natural surrounding including the Proboscis monkeys, monitor lizards, bearded pigs, silver leaf monkeys and several species of birds. You may end your trekking at a beautiful swimming beach. Return to the Park for dinner.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  6TH DAY: Bako National Park  – Kuching (B/L)


Opt for an early rise for bird watching around the Park. After breakfast, trek on another jungle trail to explore the different vegetation before returning to Kuching in the late afternoon. Overnight:  Grand Margherita Hotel.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  7TH DAY: Kuching – Lemanak River Longhouse Overnight (B/L/D)

This morning, depart hotel and drive 220km up country passing through greenery of rainforest, pepper and rubber plantation to Lemanak River. Stop along the way to visit Serian town, Farmer’s market pepper garden. Continue driving to Lemanak River where a delightful 45 min longboat ride brings you to an Iban Longhouse. The longhouses here are set on iron posts and contain several family rooms. In the evening you will be served with a traditional dinner seated native style on the mat-covered floor in the Headman’s quarter. After dinner, you will be entertained with native dance and music.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  8TH DAY: Lemanak River – Batang Ai Resort Overnight (B/L)

After breakfast try your hands on the blowpipe, a traditional hunting gear rarely in use nowadays. A guided nature walk gives you an opportunity to learn about some medicinal plants and leaves, the agricultural activities of the community and some game traps. Enjoy a backwoods style bamboo picnic by the river prepared by the local guides. After lunch, travel by native boat down river to your car and continue driving for 30 min to Batang Ai Terminal and transfer by boat for 10 min ride across the lake to Hilton Batang Ai Jungle Eco-Resort.

In the morning enjoy the resort activities, jungle walk or fishing or swim and relax by the pool. Check out before noon for return journey to Kuching. Lunch will be served at Serian Ranchan Waterfall Restaurant.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  10TH DAY: Kuching – Mulu National Park (B/L/D)

Today you fly 1 hour 20 min from Kuching to Mulu National Park. Arriving early afternoon, you have time to take a 45 minutes plank walk through the rainforest to explore some of the limestone caves. Visit the Deer Cave (one of the biggest in Southern Asia) & the beautiful Lang’s Caves. In the late afternoon, there is also a good chance to seeing millions of bats flying out from the Deer Cave for their habitual feeding. Late afternoon, return to your resort for dinner.

 PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  11TH DAY: Mulu National Park (B/L/D)

This morning we ride up the Melinau River for 45 minutes to visit Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, the longest caves passage in South East Asia. Marvel at the elegant rock formation and the wonderful stalactites and stalagmites. There will be opportunity for those who wish to swim in the river near the cave. On the return journey, visit the Penan people who live in this region. Once nomadic hunters and gatherers living on sago, fruit and game, they have now settled to grow rice, which form a large part of their diet. Picnic lunch will be served by the Clearwater summer hut.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  12TH DAY:  Mulu – Kota Kinabalu (B)

Today fly from Mulu to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah. On arrival you will be met by our guide and transferred to check in at Promenade Hotel. Rest of the day is free for you to explore the city.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  13TH DAY:  Kota Kinabalu – Gaya Island Rainforest Walk (B/L)

After breakfast, transfer to the Kota Kinabalu Jetty Terminal for a 25min boat ride to Gaya Island, one of the five islands Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. Explore the 2km jungle trail and learn about some of the unique medicinal plants, tropical hardwood, coastal vegetation and the mangrove forest. Transfer across to Manukan Island for a BBQ lunch. Relax, snorkel, swim and free at leisure before returning to Kota Kinabalu.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  14TH DAY: Kinabalu Park World Heritage Site (B/L)

This morning drive 2 hours through paddy fields and Dusun villages over the ridges of the Crocker Range to Kinabalu National Park at 5,000 feet above sea level. Visit Education Center and Mountain Garden, home to an excellent showcase of the diverse plant life and flora. Take a guided nature walk on one of the trails in the cool surrounding forest. Continue 40km drive to Poring to explore the forest trail leading to the treetop canopy walkways suspended 40m above the forest floor. Return to Kota Kinabalu for overnight at hotel.

PHOTO EXPEDITION’S  15TH DAY:   Kota Kinabalu –  Sandakan Sepilok Day Trip (B/L)

Fly early morning for an hour’s flight to Sandakan. Meet by our guide and depart by road to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Hike for 10 minutes on the wooden plank walks to witness some of the activities of the Orangutans as they come down from the trees during the feeding time. After lunch at local restaurant, proceed to a short Sandakan city tour visiting Australian War Memorial, Agnes Keith Museum, St. Michael Church and local Market before returning by flight to Kota Kinabalu.

After breakfast, transfer to KK Airport for departure.
